NPlot began life with the name scpl. Why scpl? Well, mostly because it isn't easily pronounced - I was strangely humoured by this. It is short for "scientific plotting library". I had also previously written another plotting library called ccpl, so it kind of followed on from this as well. Eventually the name got annoying so I changed it to NPlot
